Monica supports clients with market abuse risk management, benchmark regulation, compliance with IOSCO and wider regulatory requirements.
She has advised numerous firms on their market abuse systems and controls, including the development of risk assessments, policies, procedures, the calibration of alerts, and section 166 and health checks in the market abuse sphere. She also oversees our managed services for both trade surveillance and communications surveillance.
Before joining Bovill Newgate, Monica was at the FCA for eight years in Enforcement and Market Oversight investigating cases of market abuse before moving to the Wholesale Policy and International Division. There she worked on developing the European Market Abuse Regulation (MAR) with other European countries and ESMA; working closely with ACER and OFGEM in the UK in development of the market abuse regime for the energy markets; the development of the FX Global Code with the Bank of England and later on in the onshoring of MAR in UK legislation following Brexit.
She holds an LLM (Master of Laws) in International Banking and Finance Law from University College London (UCL) and a Law Degree holder from Universidad de los Andes, Colombia with specialisation in Finance law.
